Whether you're aspiring of opening a restaurant, running a bakery, managing a hotel kitchen, or setting up a food stall, one key step can't be skipped: getting your FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) registration/license.

FSSAI, established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, is an autonomous regulatory authority established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to oversee the safety and hygiene of food products in India. The organization sets standards for food products and regulates their manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import to ensure the safety of consumers. It is mandatory for Food Business Operators (FBOs) to print the 14-digit FSSAI license/registration number issued by the FSSAI on their food packages, as a mark of adherence to certain standards. The FSSAI licensing and registration procedure and requirements are regulated by the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011. The license is categorized based on the scale and nature of the food business. The license is valid for 1 to 5 years. FBOs are required to apply for renewal 30 days before its expiry to ensure periodic compliance.
